What great news! You want to learn about God. It’s a noble goal to learn more about God, and it’s something everyone should strive to do. Perhaps you made a turning point in your life or you had a spiritual epiphany and now you want to become a follower of God and want to learn his word.
Whatever the reason, we couldn’t be happier that you want to learn more about God. To help you on your spiritual journey, we’re going to teach you how to read the Bible and stick to it.
- Find a Time That Works for You
You need to make reading the Bible a priority in your life, just like do with many other things in your everyday life. Just like you schedule time out of your day to work out, spend time with friends, or simply relax, you need to schedule time for your devotional reading. It is more important to devote time to the Bible than it is to the latest TV show. After all, you will learn more from God than you will from anything else in life.
- Pick a Place That Is Comfortable
In order to stick to a routine, it must be comfortable. If you want to start reading the Bible, you must ensure that the place you read is comfortable and cozy. Whether that means reading on your recliner as you sip on your coffee or on your patio as the sun sets, find a meeting place with God that is comfortable and allows you to take in all his words without any distractions.
- Find an Accountable Partner
When you start a new habit, it’s best to have a partner who encourages you and supports you along the way. Just like you have a gym buddy, why not find a Bible buddy? This will ensure that you stick to your appointment with God.
- Tell Others about It
The whole purpose in learning the word of God is to spread it. Let your Bible study group, spouse, or best friend know that you’re trying to learn more about God. It will make you feel more devoted and accomplished as you spread the word of God to others in your life.
- Never Miss a Day
This might not be feasible, especially with today’s busy schedules and demanding careers. But you should try your best never to miss a day. Whether it means getting up a few minutes earlier or staying up a little later, make sure you get your daily reading time every day.
- Reward Yourself
Learning about God is a reward in itself, so that right there gives you so much. But to keep yourself motivated, at the end of a 7-day reading week, reward yourself with something just for you. Whether it’s a delicious cup of coffee from your favorite coffee shop or a tasty dessert, you deserve it. Do this every week and you’ll be more motivated to learn about God and feel proud of your devotion to doing so. In no time at all, reading the Bible will become a part of your daily life.
There is nothing more fulfilling than attending church with your family. However, as a parent, you know how difficult it is to encourage the whole family to go along. Everyone looks at the weekend as a time to relax, get comfy, and watch TV. But attending church has many benefits, which is why you should go with your family as often as you can.
If you are like most parents, you probably have a few family members who drag their feet, putting you in a rough spot. So how do you get the whole family to go along? Here are some helpful tips to motivate your family attend church as a whole.
- Go happy and with joy.
Going to church should not feel like a duty, a task, or a chore. If you treat it like such, your children are not going to want to go with you. One way to get the whole family excited to go is by treating church as a happy place. It is an opportunity to learn more about God, so why shouldn’t we treat it as a joyful experience? You should treat going to church with enthusiasm so your family sees that you’re excited and wants to go with you.
- Make it a habit to go every Sunday.
Not only should you attend church regularly, but you should make it a point to go every Sunday. This will show your family just how devoted you are to church, which will make them want to tag along. If your family sees you sticking to this wonderful habit, they’ll want to join you.
- Show up a few minutes early each week.
As far as church is concerned, you should show up to church a few minutes early. After all, there are many things you can do before the services begin. Families can mix and mingle with other families, and you and your family can even meet new people. You can introduce your children to the minister or pastor and other church leaders. For some parents, it can be hard to get babies and children ready on time, but there’s a solution to everything. Try to prepare as much as you can the night before so you have a head start to your regularly hectic Sunday morning schedule.
- Pray as a family at home.
Not only should you pray at church, but you should make it a habit to pray at home with your family as well. This way your whole family will know how important God is and will want to learn more about him. Therefore, encouraging them to go with you to church each weekend.
- Treat church as an extended family.
In order to get your family to go to church with you, you should treat going to church as though you were visiting extended family. This is one of the few places in your community where everyone has a big heart. Remember that church should not feel like a burden or a duty but rather something you and your family look forward to doing on a weekly basis.
- Don’t rush out the door after the services.
Don’t be in a hurry to leave as soon as services are over each Sunday. After all, it’s after church that you’ll meet other families. There are plenty of families to mingle with and new faces to meet, so why are you in such a hurry to rush out the door? Yes, it’s understandable that the little ones are going to be persistent about leaving, but tell them there are fun things to do after the services are finished. If they are too impatient, you might have to get them a book to read and keep them occupied. But do your best to stay each Sunday so everyone can see how nice it is to mingle afterwards.
- Speak well of the church.
Children have the biggest ears. That’s right, they hear everything you say. If you are criticizing the church or making statements about not wanting to go, then they are not going to want to go either. They are going to think you’re not happy going to church. However, if your children hear you speak highly of the church, they’re going to want to know why you love church so much. They are going to enjoy going to church if they know you look forward to going as well.
